Claneo is an international search, performance and content marketing agency based in Berlin. The agency was founded in 2017 out of the motivation to offer outstanding services in the most diverse areas of digital marketing, and in more than 10 languages.
Claneo has been promoting social commitment and environmental protection since the company was founded. Through the cooperation with Planetly, Claneo now creates transparency about the company's carbon emissions and wants to continuously reduce them.
Claneo supports its clients in a wide range of service areas, from digital strategy consulting to content creation and optimisation to marketing efficiency measures.
Claneo is characterised by cross-sector expertise and is regularly represented at well-known trade fairs and conferences and shares its knowledge in training courses and seminars.
At the same time, Claneo has set itself the goal of being one of the best employers in the industry from the very beginning. Apart from its commitment to provide optimal working conditions, Claneo is also committed to support and improve social and environmental issues.
For this reason, the agency has joined forces with Planetly. Together we have calculated the company's carbon footprint for 2020. In the long term, Claneo wants to reduce all avoidable emissions.
Claneo's carbon footprint includes all direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 & Scope 2), as well as emissions generated by service providers and the purchase of products and services (Scope 3).
Adding up all emissions from buildings, employees, procurement and customers results in a footprint of 63.7 tonnes of CO2e for Claneo in 2020.
The largest share of the carbon footprint represents the emissions emitted by Claneo's employees. In 2020, these were mainly caused by working from home but also by commuting to the office. Emissions from buildings account for the second largest share of emissions. These mainly include heating emissions and the power supply in the office. Emissions resulting from the purchase of goods and services account for about 20% of the total carbon footprint.
Claneo has already taken some important steps to reduce its carbon footprint in the long term. One important lever was the switch to green electricity.
To enable employees a more environmentally friendly commute, they receive a travel allowance for the train and they also have the option of leasing a job bike. Instead of gifts, new trees are planted for each employee on their birthday.

To make the office more sustainable, plastic bottles have been replaced with glass bottles and digital signatures have been introduced to promote a paperless office. All office supplies are also fairly sourced through memolife.de. Claneo's merch shop also uses sustainable companies such as Shirt Waiter and Stanley/Stella.
In the future, Claneo wants to switch to energy-efficient technology such as timers and smart thermometers in the office and introduce drinking water systems instead of glass bottles. Furthermore, joint social actions will be planned with all employees, for example waste collection campaigns. Claneo also wants to start its own urban office garden.
Claneo will always continue to work on reducing its emissions. In the meantime, the company has decided to compensate for the emissions that have so far been unavoidable by supporting highly effective, certified climate action projects. For 2020, the Claneo team has chosen a project in Rwanda. The project in East Africa aims to improve access to clean drinking water for the locals. This is achieved through the construction and maintenance of wells in Rwanda. With the help of the project, local hygiene and health conditions are improved, dependence on firewood is reduced and equal relations between men and women are created. By supporting this project, Claneo has offset 70 tonnes of CO2e.
